Flowchart for Completion of Masters & Doctoral Program

The flowchart of study completion above applies to students in Masters and Doctoral Program. After taking courses for 2 to 3 semesters and fulfilling the recommended number of credits, students must take the following steps:

Comprehensive Exam (there is a minimum number of credits required);
Thesis/Dissertation Proposal Examination (have taken all mandatory and elective courses);
Conducting Research and Supervision (For research/supervision decrees, students nominate the supervisors, the Head of Study Program considers and recommends a thesis/dissertation supervisors);
Eligibility test for quality assurance (thesis plagiarism check by Study Program, while dissertation plagiarism check by P3KI, Dissertation review by postgraduate commission);
First Examination (Closed Exam)*;
Dissertation Revision and Supervision;
Final Defense (Thesis Examinitation for Masters Program, Promotion for Doctoral Program)**;

*Requirements before first examination that must be prepared include: supervisor’s decree, proof of supervision, proof of international seminar certificate, publication of articles in proceedings, proof of publication of articles in Sinta-indexed National journals or reputable International Journals, and TOEFL/PTSOL Scores. For quality assurance, published articles must be validated by P3KI.

Learning Process

The learning process is delivered through face-to-face instruction, distance learning, and blended learning, in accordance with the Rector’s Decree of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Number 40 of 2024 concerning the Guidelines for the Implementation of Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

Learning Delivery System

The Master’s programs at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) offer two distinct academic tracks: the Coursework-based track (by Course) and the Research-based track (by Research).

Coursework-based Track (by Course): This track is designed for students to complete a specific number of taught modules over the first two to three semesters. Starting from the third or fourth semester onwards, students proceed to conduct original research under the supervision of faculty members.

Research-based Track (by Research): This track prioritizes independent inquiry from the outset. While students are required to complete several compulsory modules during the first semester, they transition fully into research and scientific publication starting from the second semester, guided by their supervisors. For the Arts Education Study Program, applicants must demonstrate a prior record of scientific publication to be eligible for this track.

The Regular Admission pathway is conducted through the University Entrance Examination (PMB), which includes an Academic Potential Test (TPA), English Proficiency Test, and an Interview Session administered by UPI.

International Admission For international students currently residing in Indonesia, the admission process is managed by the Directorate of Education. Meanwhile, for international applicants applying from abroad, the process is jointly coordinated by the Directorate of International Affairs (DIA) and the Directorate of Education.

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway allows for the admission of new students by acknowledging their previous academic or professional experiences. Through this scheme, students may receive credit transfers for up to a maximum of 70% of the total required credits (SKS) for the program.

The Fast Track program is an accelerated academic pathway designed for high-achieving UPI undergraduate students. Eligible students in their 7th semester may apply to simultaneously enroll in Master’s level courses. Students admitted through this pathway continue to pay undergraduate tuition fees for two semesters until they complete their Bachelor’s degree. Subsequently, they will fulfill the tuition requirements for the remaining Master’s credits and semesters until graduation.

The Institutional Partnership pathway is a specialized admission route based on formal agreements between UPI and specific partner organizations. The selection process for this pathway is governed by a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and a Rector’s Decree.
